Concrete, Light, and the Psychology of Awe

I took a walk downtown this week and ended up shooting a small set that surprised me. No plan. No location list. Just that feeling you get when the city slows down around you.

Psychologists talk about awe as a mental reset. It happens when you stand in front of something larger than your everyday world. It shifts your breathing, your posture, and your headspace. I felt that while shooting these buildings.

Black and white brought out the details that color would hide. The grids of windows. The heavy courthouse wall. The way the light hit the steel at the right moment.

Sometimes photography becomes a way to see yourself from a different angle. The city becomes a mirror. You feel the weight of the buildings and your thoughts quiet down a little.
